Fine Art & Nature Photographer — Monica Dalmasso

My work takes place in wild nature — its magic, its poetry — and explores the relationship between humans and extreme environments.
Based in Chamonix, I am a fine art photographer creating images at the edge of reality and imagination, through immersion, physical engagement and a sensitive approach to the living world.

My approach to photography is instinctive and immersive. I search for that fragile moment when perception shifts, when landscapes become almost unreal — like a waking dream.
I work in raw environments — mountains, ice, vertical worlds — where unpredictability is part of the process.
My work reveals both the power of nature and the place of humans within it.

A graduate of École Nationale Louis Lumière in Paris and a former member of the French climbing team, my background shapes a deeply field-based approach.

This dual expertise — artistic and physical — allows me to access demanding environments and create unique images.

I collaborate with organizations, territories and brands  committed to meaningful storytelling around nature, environment and human experience.
My clients include tourism boards, outdoor brands, NGOs and cultural institutions.

Books

My first book “Sauvage!”, published by Glénat, with texts by Cédric Sapin-Defour.

Awarded Best Photography Book at the Banff Festival (Canada).

L’Alpe — December 2023

“Few women photographers work in high mountains. Among this small circle, Monica Dalmasso stands out for her eye and her physical commitment to capturing the perfect moment. As seen in her latest book, her sports photography is not driven by the pursuit of performance, but by the elegance of movement and the precision of gesture. Like researchers in fundamental physics, she studies the elements that shape nature.Above all, it is the raw beauty of so-called ‘hostile’ environments that she reveals through her work on texture, the grain of rock, and the transparency of ice. Both her photographs and Cédric Sapin-Defour’s texts that accompany them convey a profound sense of poetry.”
