Le "Flow" in photography

April 5, 2024

In climbing, I've been able to experience that "state of grace" that occurs when everything is aligned, the motivation, the  anticipation, when your body imagines and links movements together perfectly.Everything seems simple, limpid and unhindered,, and these are often the days when you achieve your best performances. This state also exists in photography, and I love it.It appears randomly, it's difficult to stabilize, but the more you try it, the easier it becomes to access.

Perhaps you've already experienced it in photography or in other activities? You lose track of time, you resonate with the subject you're photographing, you see things you've never seen before... a natural second state.

Flow in photography is perhaps the most important thing for me, the one that brings me the most pleasure, a kind of grail...to wander around like a child in wonder, without any real goal, stopping at anything that catches my eye.Strangely enough, when I'm in that state, I become very patient. I'm always assessing whether the vision I have in the viewfinder is in line with the emotion I'm feeling, and how I can get even closer. If I can't find the connection, I don't shoot, as if pressing the button could break the magic that's taking place.Whether you've already experimented with flow in photography or not, give it a try, with your iphone or your camera, let your intuition be your guide, without judging what is or isn't photographable.

Above all , enjoy the bizarre ideas that will  come to mind.
