The art of clouds

June 22, 2026

Scientists observe them, measure their altitude, shape and evolution, trying to make them speak in order to predict the weather. Yet clouds speak first and foremost to our imagination.

Above our heads, they are the great transformers of the landscape. In a matter of moments, they erase a mountain, veil a valley, or blur the horizon. Then they reveal once again what they had concealed, as if redrawing the world according to their own whims.

They play with light. They set the sky ablaze at sunrise and sunset, cast their shadows across the slopes, sculpt the contours of the land, and bring character to even the most peaceful landscapes. With a few brushstrokes, a familiar scene suddenly becomes dramatic, mysterious, or grand.

Constantly in motion, they create a living canvas. They stretch, dissolve, disappear, and re-emerge without end. They play hide-and-seek with the mountain peaks, invent fleeting silhouettes, and sketch shapes across the sky that we delight in trying to recognize.

Lying in the grass, we watch them as we would listen to a story. They spark our imagination, awaken memories, and invite us to dream. Somewhere between science and poetry, clouds may be the freest artists in our landscapes: elusive, ever-changing, and always capable of creating the unexpected.
